Recycling Associate

The Recycling Associate works under the direct supervision of the Recycling Supervisor. The employee receives general guidance from the supervisor but is expected to function independently. He/she must be able to work in cooperation with the supervisor and his/her peers. This is an hourly paid position reviewed annually by the Recycling Supervisor and HR.

The deconstructor is responsible for cutting open mattresses and box springs and removing/separating and stacking all materials for disposition. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Each deconstructor is responsible for cutting 50 mattresses per day.

Volunteer Coordinator

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Provides support to The Mustard Seed (TMS) volunteers, ensuring clients receive high-quality, caring attention. Responsible for community outreach and volunteer recruitment, recognition, and retention. Works with TMS management and staff to ensure all members receive proper on-site volunteers to further the mission.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Volunteer Coordinator reports directly to the Marketing Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the organization
• Survey staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
• Ensure volunteers are staffed to support the various areas of operations, to include client service areas, warehouse, recycling center, Seed Boutique, back office special events, development, and marketing/communications
• Recommend the most efficient use of volunteers, appropriate volunteer/supervisory mix, and future workforce needs to support volunteer program operations
• Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer orientation and training
• Schedule and document all volunteer activity
• Develop and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service
• Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
• Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate
• Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation
• Create and distribute various communications and publications
• Author and distribute monthly Seed Team Scoop email
• Target volunteer communication campaigns, including website, social media, and other avenues
• Create written communications such as letters, practices, instructions, or other media, as appropriate
• Work with management and professional associations to publicize opportunities for volunteers
• Develop and maintain relationships with other volunteer organizations within the area
• Identify and participate in community outreach opportunities
• Initiate the desired target through meetings, events, and/or speaking engagements each month in the following sectors: churches, civic/service groups, educations, businesses, non-profit/government agencies, chambers
• Identify community outreach opportunities such as fairs, festivals, local markets and organizations
• Provide data management, reporting, and administration
• Prepare, distribute, collect, and manage volunteer data and provide database management
• Review, generate, and provide weekly volunteer activity reports to management
• Provide other types of office position coverage as assigned to include, but not limited to answering general phone calls, answering client concerns, and scheduling donor pickups
• Handle telephone calls, voicemail, written, and e-mail inquiries for information, as well as send confirmation and reminders
• Attend professional training, conferences, seminars, and meetings as requested by management
• Other duties as assigned by office management
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Volunteer Coordinator must be able to perform each job duty and responsibilities in a satisfactorily manner.
Education and Experience
• Possess an Associate’s Degree and demonstrated experience managing people
• The ability to communicate with, supervise, and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles
• Demonstrable experience managing data in a professional workplace or nonprofit environment
• The ability to work cooperatively with different types of people with varying personalities and development levels, including court-mandated volunteers
• Work or volunteer experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis
• The ability to execute engaging presentations to large groups of people
• Clean driving record
Skills
• Strong communication skills
• Organization and planning skills
• Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage
• Experience using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc) and web-based volunteer recruitment sites (Volunteer Match, United Way Volunteer Resource Center, etc.)
• Ability to manage websites using WordPress or equivalent
• Record keeping and database management: Donor Perfect database systems, Microsoft and Office Suite, and Constant Contact tools, or equivalent
• Able to operate a twelve-person passenger van

Capabilities
• Demonstrated capability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
• Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers
• Effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities with multi-tasking ability
• Proven productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions
• Fluency in Spanish a plus

Time Commitments
• Hours are generally Monday – Friday, between 8:00am – 5:00pm
• Must be available for special events, training, and some Saturdays
• Willingness to use flex hours to accommodate the needs of the job
