Client Story: Antavia
After being homeless and jobless for more than a year, Antavia now has full-time employment and a home of her own. Thanks to YOU, Antavia received more than 15 pieces of furniture from The Mustard Seed of Central Florida to make her house a home.
While so many businesses, including Antavia’s employer, have been forced to shut down amid the Coronavirus pandemic, The Mustard Seed is here to help people in our community suffering from natural disaster or personal tragedy.
Antavia said she hasn’t lost her job at a call center in Lake Mary, which shut down temporarily because of the Coronavirus. She said her employer is preparing to allow employees to work from home.
Antavia and her two children, ages 3 and 2, have been sleeping on the floor in an unfurnished apartment for more than a week. Prior to that, when Antavia was out of work, she and her children lived in motels and out of her car. She said she borrowed money from friends and family to pay for the motels. However, when her resources ran out, she and her children lived in her car.
She called 2-1-1, a free service provided by United Way that connects area residents to critical health and social service resources. That agency referred her to Pathways to Home for housing assistance. Pathways to Home connected Antavia with The Mustard Seed for home furnishings.
“I am glad you guys are open because we’ve been sleeping on the floor,” Antavia said. “It’s a blessing, especially for a single mother like me.”
