Client Story: Dawn

All Dawn wants for Christmas is for her son to get a new kidney.

“That would be the best Christmas present ever,” Dawn said.

Dawn’s 17-year-old son, John, was diagnosed with Alport syndrome – a kidney disease – at 10 years old.

John’s kidney started failing in April 2019, and he receives dialysis treatment at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children three times a week. He is on a waiting list to receive a kidney transplant. It could take up to two years to receive a new kidney, Dawn said.

John had been sleeping in an inadequate bed on the floor, but thanks to you he received a new bed at The Mustard Seed of Central Florida. Dawn said John has an implanted port – a type of medical device needed for dialysis – and sleeping too close to the floor was worrisome.

The mother and son also needed dressers, a dining table, a student desk, end tables and pots and pans.

Each time you donate to The Mustard Seed, you make a meaningful impact on the lives of Central Florida residents like Dawn and John.

“I don’t like to take gifts,” Dawn said. “But if I had something like this to donate I would because to give to someone who needs it makes you feel better. Thank you very much.”
