Client Story: Kimberly

Kimberly and her dog, Hasani, a shih tzu poodle mix, lived in a car for two months after moving to Orlando from California.
Kimberly, originally from Orlando, worked at a motel in California but had to leave the state after struggling to pay her bills.
She contacted homeless shelters in Orlando, but they were either at capacity or would not accept pets. A few of Kimberly’s friends allowed her to take showers at their apartments or sleep on their couches, but she didn’t want to overstay her welcome.
“It was scary not knowing if wherever I was sleeping in my car would be safe or where could I take a shower,” Kimberly said.
After landing a job at an Orlando hotel, Kimberly was able to rent an apartment. The apartment stayed empty until Kimberly learned about The Mustard Seed through friends.
“I was thinking about buying some wood and building makeshift furniture because I needed money to put gas in my car and to buy groceries. I couldn’t afford furniture,” Kimberly said.
YOUR SUPPORT enabled Kimberly to furnish her entire apartment and make it feel like a real home.
“The fact that I don’t have to worry about sleeping on the floor takes a huge load off,” Kimberly said. “To actually know I’m going to have real furniture is pretty cool. It puts me at peace.”
