Furniture for Grace and Her Family

“We’d had our son home for less than a year before our home flooded.”

For Grace, complications during pregnancy and premature birth led to a long NICU stay for her son. Her child was released from the NICU in January of 2022. Then Hurricane Ian flooded their home that fall.

“There was a less than 1% chance of our home flooding. We weren’t in a flood zone. It hasn’t flooded since it was built in the 90’s.” The storm flooded their home with 9 inches of water, resulting in the loss of all their possessions.

“We found [The Mustard Seed] in May of 2023 at an event. We are thankful for this opportunity; all of our furniture was lost.” Due to delays in remediation, Grace and her family were finally able to receive services from The Mustard Seed in March of 2024.

When asked what advice she had for others in a similar situation, Grace shared, “A lot of people go through hard things, but being vulnerable about situations […] and sharing about that vulnerability… people don’t always know that there is a need. Sharing with others allows people to show their good side”

In total, Grace and her family received 9 pieces of furniture to help make their house feel like home.

For over 35 years, The Mustard Seed has helped rebuild the lives of families and individuals who have experienced natural disaster, personal tragedy, or other situations of crisis. To support our mission in advance of this year’s hurricane season, click here.
