Furniture for Risa

For Risa, multiple debilitating medical diagnoses affecting her physically and cognitively left her in need care. “I went from [being] a nurse, to working at Walgreens, and then I couldn’t even do that. I had to stop driving…it was in everyone’s best interest for me to stop driving.”

“[My son] was spending 24 hours a day…taking care of me.” This level of care has been needed since her son was in middle school. When Risa’s son graduated from high school, she found herself hospitalized for another month.

“I was living in independent living facilities, but I’m just now at a place where I can sort of live on my own.” Risa stayed in independent living facilities for the last 5 years, and as she is re-establishing a home for herself and her new needs, she needs furniture.

Risa will still be visited by home health aides as she continues to recover. “I can’t fill out forms, I can’t follow recipes.” Risa has been pursuing physical therapy through martial arts, and is excited to have a level of independence in her new residence. “I can do my own shopping, I can get my own haircut. [My son] doesn’t have to come help me do grocery shopping.”

“I’m getting my life back.” Risa received 14 pieces of furniture from The Mustard Seed of Central Florida to help make her apartment feel like home.
