Single Mothers in Central Florida: Turning Empty Spaces into Homes

In Orange County, Florida, approximately 31% of households are led by a single parent—and most are single mothers. Behind that number are real women carrying the weight of providing, nurturing, and holding everything together, often without a safety net.

Single motherhood comes with challenges that go far beyond finances. It’s the emotional toll of doing it all alone. It’s the constant time crunch. It’s the quiet mental load of decision-making that never seems to end. And when a home is missing something as basic as furniture, even the simplest routines—like bedtime—can feel overwhelming.

A child without a bed. A mother without a place to rest. These aren’t just inconveniences—they’re daily barriers to stability, dignity, and peace of mind.

Where Hope Begins

This is where The Mustard Seed of Central Florida steps in.

Last year, more than 42% of the families we served—over 400 households—were single parents. Each one came to us with a need and left with something deeper than furniture: a renewed sense of hope.

In as little as 20 minutes, a mother can be qualified for upwards of 20 pieces of furniture, depending on her household size. Beds for restful nights. Couches for connection. Tables where families can gather again.

We also provide kitchen essentials and home décor—because a home isn’t just functional, it should feel personal. Warm. Safe. Whole.

Jada’s Story: A Place to Finally Rest

Jada, a single mother of four, walked through our doors in September 2025 with an empty home.

No beds. No couch. No place for her children to land at the end of the day.

Together, we helped furnish her home with 19 pieces of furniture. As she looked around, taking it all in, one thing stood out most to her—a couch.

A place, as she put it, “…to sit down and relax.”

It may sound simple. But for Jada, it meant everything.

It meant exhaling after a long day.
It meant her children having a place to gather.
It meant home.

You Can Be Someone’s Angel this Mother’s Day 💛

Every piece of furniture tells a story. Every donation creates a turning point.

Your gently used couch, dresser, or dining table could be the very thing that helps a single mother reclaim her space—and her peace.

Help us turn empty rooms into sanctuaries. Help families like Jada’s come home to hope.
