Client Story: Carly and Omer
Carly, her husband, Omer, and their 17-year-old son fled Venezuela in 2021 to escape danger for speaking out against the country’s tyrannical government. They took a bus to Colombia, then flew to Mexico and crossed the border into the United States to seek asylum.
They were political activists in Venezuela, and because they spoke out against the government, they said their lives were in danger. The family stayed with a relative in Orlando for nine months until they could afford to rent an apartment.
“We are so grateful because we are passing through a very hard situation right now,” Carly said about receiving furniture assistance. “We had to leave everything behind. We are so thankful for all the help.”
