Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator provides professional staff support to The Mustard Seed (TMS) volunteers, ensuring that clients receive high-quality, caring attention as they receive TMS services. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for community outreach and volunteer recruitment, recognition, retention. The Volunteer Coordinator works with TMS management and staff to ensure all members of the TMS team receive proper onsite volunteers to further the Mustard Seed’s mission.
The Volunteer Coordinator must be able to demonstrate the following skill set and experience prior to interview:
• Associate’s degree and demonstrated experience managing people
• The ability to communicate with, supervise and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles—professional or voluntary experience in volunteer coordination
• Demonstrable experience managing data in a professional workplace or nonprofit environment
• The ability to work cooperatively with different types of people with varying personalities and development levels
• Work or volunteer experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis
• The ability to execute engaging presentations to large groups of people
• Data entry of each volunteer into Donor Perfect (CRM)
• Clean driving record
• Willingness to work some Saturdays
• Commitment to TMS program’s goals and mission
Applicants for the position of TMS Volunteer Coordinator will be given preference based on the following skill set and experience:
• Experience using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc) and web-based volunteer recruitment sites (Volunteer Match, United Way Volunteer Resource Center, etc.)
• Experience managing WordPress websites
• Experience with Donor Perfect database systems, Microsoft and Office Suite, and Constant Contact tools
• Ability to drive twelve-person passenger van
• Experience working with and managing court ordered volunteers

The Volunteer Coordinator reports directly to the Development and Marketing Manager, who is responsible for his/her performance evaluations, and ultimately to the Executive Director.
• Complete TMS training in all work areas
• Work with Development/Marketing Manager and Executive Director to establish the specific accountabilities for numbers of volunteers needed and activities by which to attract and engage them
• Initiate the desired target for meetings, events, and/or speaking engagements per month in the following sectors: churches, civic/service groups, educations, businesses, non-profit/government agencies
• Help develop and execute TMS volunteer recruitment strategies and resulting specific recruitment plans
• Recruit, screen, interview and assist TMS team members to train new volunteers
• Assign TMS volunteers to appropriate projects and activities, in consultation with the Operations Director
• Prepare, distribute, collect, and manage volunteer data coming from TMS volunteer documentation
• Review and generate volunteer activity reports for the Development & Marketing Manager and Executive Director
• Assist Development & Marketing Manager with targeted volunteer campaigns
• Maintain volunteer files
• Participate with the Development & Marketing Manager and/or Executive Director in evaluations of volunteer recruitment strategy and plans
• Monitor TMS team members assigned to oversee volunteers and assist with identified needs
• Attend and contribute to TMS weekly staff meetings
• Execute TMS volunteer appreciation activities and events
• Provide other types of office position coverage as assigned by the Office Manager, Operations Manager and/or Executive Director
• Attend professional conferences/seminars/meetings as requested by the Executive Director
• Participate in performance evaluations of this position as delivered by the Director of Operations and/or Executive Director
• Other duties as may be assigned by direct supervisor and/or Executive Director
The TMS Volunteer Coordinator position is an hourly, full-time position with a review after first 90 days.
Classes, workshops, and trainings paid by organization. Salary and benefits comparable to nonprofit compensation in Central Florida

Riders/Furniture Movers

Title: Furniture Mover

Position Status (FT/PT): Full-time.

The mission of The Mustard Seed of Central Florida is to help rebuild the lives of families who have suffered disaster or personal tragedy by providing household furnishings and clothing while being environmentally responsible to our community.

The Mustard Seed’s vision is that the provision of basic household furniture may set the stage for individuals to achieve restored dignity and self-esteem, enabling them to move ahead and take control of their futures.

Position purpose

Under the direction of The Mustard Seed of Central Florida, Inc. (TMS) management, the Driver and Furniture Mover is responsible for exercising the proper use and extraordinary care of TMS vehicles and other equipment. In addition, the Furniture Mover is charged with the responsibility of representing TMS in a professional manner to members of the community, and with encouraging in-kind donors to make a financial gift at the time of donation pick-up. Furniture Movers, therefore, are held accountable for proper cash handling.


The Furniture Mover will work in teams of two alongside drivers under the supervision of TMS Management to provide TMS donors with donation pickup and TMS Furniture Program clients with delivery services including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Must demonstrate a pleasant and professional demeanor and appearance in accordance with TMS policy at all times.
  • Responsible for the quick, efficient, and safe movement of all donations from the place of pickup, for both residential and commercial donors, to the trucks, into the warehouse and organized appropriately.
  • Inventory all items as they are picked up on the daily route.
  • Responsible for following route map directions provided by TMS management in the most efficient route possible as good stewards of gifts to TMS from the community. Responsible for ensuring the route directions are clear prior to leaving warehouse.
  • Perform warehouse duties when not on a pick-up or delivery.
  • Supporting TMS management in all special projects as they arise.
  • Other duties as assigned by TMS Management.

Required Qualifications.

  • Must submit to drug and background employment screening tests. Due to nature

of work this person must be able to enter a residence and interact with clients without legal restraints.

  • A strong and unwavering commitment to ethical business practices, including honesty and integrity.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, especially in relating to clients and donors of different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations and abilities.

 Preferred Experience

  • Forklift certification not required, but such skills are preferred.

 Educational Requirements

  • Must have a GED, high school diploma, or equivalent job experience.

 Physical Requirements:

  • Efficient, strong, hard-working and able to multi-task. Must be able to lift up to 50-100 on a daily basis without any special compromises. May be required to carry heavy merchandise upstairs.

Warehouse Team Lead

General Description 

The Warehouse Team Lead shall manage all aspects and safety of the warehouse including, donation pickups and drop-offs, inventory sheets, assist clients loading of household items, and general warehouse cleanliness.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

The Warehouse Team Lead will work under the supervision of the Director of Operations in providing operational support of the warehouse including, but not limited to:

Present The Mustard Seed organization positively and confidently to the clients  and donors.

Collaborate with Client Intake person to request the number of clients per day.  Be prepared to perform the Client Specialist duties as an alternative. Coordinating all processes that involve the furniture clients and the disbursement of furniture.

Every am examine Row 3 to maintain a full line of beds, including mattresses  and box springs.  All items must be sprayed to sanitize with Sterifab product prior  to placement on the line.

Responsible for Inventory management. Record all donations on inventory sheet each day.  Deliver inventory sheets to the Office Coordinator at the end of each day.

Management of drivers as relates specifically to warehouse operations.

Oversee items as The Mustard Seed vehicles or external transporters arrive to the warehouse to be certain they are offloaded to the correct location within the facility. Make certain each item is listed on the inventory sheet.

Support the Director of Operations and the Executive Director in leading all special projects as they arise, pertaining to the warehouse and its operations.

Coordinate with the Director of Operations when large sources of furniture and other material are donated for furniture and clothing bank programs to prepare the warehouse capacity. Large shipments from any one company to be inventoried separately and listed by company name.

Accept only donations that are suitable for clients from donors (no rips, stains, tears, or odors) offering them a receipt and a thank you, as well as assuring that all the donated items are put into their respective areas and inventoried.

Support the Recycling Department when needed, pertaining to forklift activities.

Maintain an ongoing volunteer project list.  Management of all community service workers, volunteers, and staff to ensure they are maintaining productivity in the warehouse.

Rotate inventory from the loft, Conex boxes, trailers, and upper row shelving.

Responsible for maintaining an organized and clean dish room, linen room, sorting room, upstairs storage area, clean warehouse and loading area.

Every day sweep warehouse and roll tide yard.

End of day turn all lights and fans off.

Training will be provided to drive company vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment.

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.


The primary qualifications for the position of Warehouse Team Lead are:

A strong and unwavering commitment to ethical business practices, including honesty and integrity. This includes demonstrating no favoritism, dishonesty, giving away items or keeping items for self or others.

Efficient, strong, hard-working, and able to multi-task. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. on a daily basis without any special compromises.

Superior interpersonal skills, especially in relating to clients and donors of different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and abilities.

Must have valid U.S. Driver’s License.

Must submit to drug and background employment screening tests. Due to the nature of work and the constant contact with valuable items, this person may not have any theft, burglary, fraud, or violent crimes in their criminal history.
