Interview with a Board Member: Stephanie Philips

The Mustard Seed of Central Florida is grateful for the commitment of our dedicated board members. Stephanie Philips is Executive Director for Patient Safety at AdventHealth in Central Florida, leading and supporting efforts to ensure patient and workforce safety. A nurse for 30+ years, Stephanie is enthusiastic about improving healthcare in the communities she is part of. We sat down with Stephanie so that she could share more about why she wanted to be involved with The Mustard Seed of Central Florida.

What brought you to being involved with The Mustard Seed of Central Florida?

I was invited to learn more about the Mustard Seed and consider a board position by another board member. When learning more about the organization, I was impressed with the leadership and the breadth and delivery of services.

What is your favorite part of being a board member?

Learning about and understanding the impact of the organization, how services are delivered in a compassionate and thoughtful manner, and the impressive engagement of the staff.

Can you share one of your favorite memories of being involved with The Mustard Seed?

I enjoyed my time in the warehouse alongside other volunteers. I am also happy to have the chance to promote The Mustard Seed in my community and with my contacts. I’ve been gratified when people then know more about the organization and choose to donate goods or funds to because of our conversations.

How is your professional experience enhanced by serving on a Board of Directors?

I am glad to expand my understanding of the local community outside of my work environment and utilize both my professional experience for the organization and my enhanced community knowledge to consider in my work setting.
