A New Apartment, A Growing Family, and a Fresh Start for Jordynn

For Jordynn, moving into her first apartment marked an exciting new chapter of strength, courage, and responsibility. With a baby on the way and a growing family to prepare for, she had so much to look forward to.

Having a place to call your own is a meaningful milestone. It brings independence, new responsibilities, and the opportunity to create a space that reflects the life you’re building. But for many individuals and families, the cost of furnishing that space can be difficult to manage alongside rent, utilities, groceries, and other everyday expenses.

Jordynn knew that challenge firsthand. As she settled into her first apartment, she was learning to balance monthly bills while making plans for her growing family. Then an unexpected setback made the transition even harder.

Client Photo Jordynn and Her Growing Family StoryShe learned that her belongings in storage had been sold without her knowledge. Furniture and household essentials she had already worked to acquire were suddenly gone. Instead of simply unpacking and settling in, Jordynn faced the added expense of replacing things she thought she still had.

Starting over can be discouraging, especially when you’re already working hard to establish a home. Yet Jordynn remained focused on what was ahead: a comfortable place for her family and a welcoming environment for her baby.

That’s when she found The Mustard Seed.

Through our Furniture Program, Jordynn was able to select essential furnishings for her apartment. When asked what she was most excited to receive, she immediately mentioned the sofa and dining room furniture.

It’s easy to overlook how much those pieces matter in daily life. A sofa provides somewhere to unwind after a long day. A dining table creates space for meals, conversations, and time together. These are ordinary parts of home life, but replacing them all at once can be costly.

And Jordynn had another reason to be excited. With her baby’s arrival approaching, she was happy to find a changing station and a bookshelf as she prepared for this next chapter.

The Mustard Seed’s Furniture Program helps families access practical household essentials during times of transition and unexpected hardship. For Jordynn, that support meant she could put more of her energy toward managing the responsibilities of her first apartment and preparing to welcome her child.

But perhaps the most meaningful part of her visit was the advice she offered others.

When asked what she would say to someone facing a similar situation, Jordynn shared:

“There are resources out there to help, so don’t be scared to use the resources that you have.”

Her message is simple, generous, and important. Knowing that help exists—and feeling comfortable reaching out for it—can make a difficult season more manageable. Seeking support doesn’t take away from what someone has already accomplished. It can help them protect that progress and keep moving forward.

In total, Jordynn received 27 pieces of furniture and household essentials through The Mustard Seed. Each piece helped her continue furnishing her apartment, easing the pressure of replacing lost belongings while getting ready for a new member of her family.

Jordynn’s story is about more than the challenge of starting over. It’s about the pride of having a first apartment, the determination to navigate an unexpected loss, and the excitement of a growing family. The furnishings she received are part of that journey, but the future she is building belongs to her.

We are grateful to Jordynn for sharing her experience and allowing The Mustard Seed to play a part in this special chapter of her life.

You can help families like Jordynn build a strong foundation for their next chapter. Your generosity provides essential furniture and household items that help turn empty spaces into comfortable homes, giving families room to focus on what matters most.
