After a Devastating House Fire, Geraldine Rebuilds Her Home and Hope

Geraldine never imagined that a fire would take away the home she shared with her two adult sons.

Geraldine lives with an ongoing medical condition and relies on her sons for support. “They’re still going to be my babies,” she said with a smile. Together, they are more than a household—they are a family that looks after one another.

The day of the fire began like any other. Geraldine was speaking on the phone and preparing for an upcoming family reunion when she smelled smoke. She quickly realized it was coming from her bedroom. As the smoke grew stronger, she knew she needed to get out. Remembering her previous lung surgery, she left the apartment and immediately alerted her neighbors.

She escaped with her life, but the fire took nearly everything else.
