Meet the Board: Alexa Stone

When Alexa Stone first learned about The Mustard Seed of Central Florida, it started with a small but telling detail: children’s car seats that would have gone straight to the landfill—until she heard about the organization’s repurposing program. That moment piqued her interest. Seeing the mattress deconstruction program in person sealed it.

“I’ve spent years working to reduce landfill waste,” Alexa shared. “Watching such an innovative, hands-on sustainability effort—one that directly supports families in crisis—was deeply moving.”

Now newly connected to the organization as a Board Member, Alexa says her greatest joy has been seeing the real impact behind the scenes. One conversation stood out in particular: a discussion with a friend at the Center for Multicultural Wellness and Prevention, who shared that nearly 90% of their residents receive furniture, appliances, and clothing from The Mustard Seed.

“Hearing that made everything so tangible,” Alexa said. “All the meetings and strategy conversations translate into real beds, real kitchens, real comfort for families who desperately need it.”

Her favorite memory so far perfectly captures her hands-on spirit. Arriving at her very first Board meeting, Alexa pulled up with her trunk packed full of clothing and household items. She laughs about it now, but the moment felt right. “It was important to me to show up not just as a Board member, but as a neighbor,” she said. “This is a place where everyone rolls up their sleeves.”

Serving on the Board has broadened Alexa’s perspective both personally and professionally. As President & Founder of ecoPreserve LLC, she’s long believed that sustainability must be practical, people-centered, and action-oriented. Her work with The Mustard Seed reinforces that belief daily.

“It reminds me that resilience isn’t just about buildings,” she shared. “It’s about families and the spaces where they rebuild their lives. Sustainability and social impact belong in the same conversation. Reducing waste, reusing materials, and restoring dignity can happen together.”

When asked why the mission matters, Alexa didn’t hesitate:

“Because helping families rebuild their homes with dignity while keeping usable goods out of the landfill is exactly the kind of hopeful, practical work our community needs.”

Her favorite quote, from Emily Brontë, captures her reflective approach to both life and leadership:

“I have dreamed in my life, dreams that have stayed with me ever after… and altered the color of my mind.”

We’re grateful to welcome Alexa to The Mustard Seed Board and excited for the energy, expertise, and heart she brings to our mission as part of our Meet the Board series.
