A Dresser for Curtis

“My house was flooded out…I lost my clothes, my carpets, my furniture. Everything.”

For Curtis, who by trade drives trucks, being on dialysis the last several years has slowed down the momentum of his life. In 2019, he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. When Hurricane Ian blew through the Central Florida region, Curtis was rescued from his home, with the flooding claiming most of his belongings.

Curtis stayed with his mother while his home was renovated. “We had to rip out the ceilings and the drywall. Replace everything.”

In January, Curtis received a kidney transplant, and now that his home is remediated after the flooding, he is moving back in with furniture from The Mustard Seed. In total, Curtis received 21 pieces of furniture to make his house a home.

We are grateful to Heart of Florida United Way for supporting The Mustard Seed to help families who were affected by Hurricane’s Ian and Nicole rebuild their lives.
