A Home That Reflects Wilna’s Glamorous Resilience

When Hurricane Milton swept through Central Florida, it destroyed the transitional housing where Wilna and her two children were staying in Apopka. “The house was messed up, the lights were cut off… and they just left us there,” she recalled. Though FEMA offered some help, the funds weren’t enough to cover all of her family’s needs — so she had to make an impossible choice.

As a mother to an 18-year-old and a 13-year-old, Wilna did the best she could with what she had. But starting over with only a suitcase of clothes, no furniture, and the heartbreak of losing her emotional support dog, the road ahead felt uncertain.

“This is brightness,” she said, looking around The Mustard Seed. “We came from a rough path… this brings light.”

What made her experience even more special was the ability to choose items that reflected who she is—not just what would get her by. With a huge smile, Wilna shared that she picked out pink items and furniture that matched her glam style. After so much loss, it was deeply moving to reclaim a sense of identity and joy through design and color.

Wilna is also a small business owner, running a residential cleaning service. With the help of The Mustard Seed, she’s rebuilding not only her home but also her livelihood.

“My home was my office. Now I can restart again—because they gave me a desk.”

Wilna received 27 pieces of furniture, including beds, a dining set, and a desk—helping restore dignity, reignite hope, and offer her family a space that finally feels like home.

You can be a light for families like Wilna’s as they rebuild after disaster.
