Client Story: Jessica
Jessica fled an unhealthy relationship and lived out of her car with her young daughter and then in homes with several different families. With the help of kindhearted people, Jessica and her daughter regained stability and dignity.
A year ago, friends introduced the 24-year-old to her now boyfriend, Curt. They have a 1-month old daughter together. The couple, their newborn and Jessica’s 4-year-old daughter, lived with Curt’s mother for six months while they waited on a list for affordable housing. There were nine people living in the home, including Curt’s siblings and their children.
Jessica received good news they had been approved for a two-bedroom unit in the newly built Parramore Oaks Apartments. The family moved in on Nov. 5, 2019.
“It came right around the right time so I don’t have to have my baby sleeping everywhere else,” Jessica said.
Jessica learned about The Mustard Seed of Central Florida’s Furniture Program through her pastor.
“I thought it was a little far-fetched,” Jessica said of the program. “Somebody will furnish my whole apartment? I couldn’t believe it.”
It was good timing for Jessica when she arrived at The Mustard Seed.
Burger, Carroll & Associates Inc., a national public sector management and information technology consulting firm based in Santa Fe, NM, had donated a brand-new living room set to The Mustard Seed. The company bought the furniture for its exhibit booth while attending a conference at the Orange County Convention Center and then donated it for a family in need.
“Their donations touched my heart,” Jessica said. “It’s gorgeous. I love it. I feel truly blessed all around.”
