Natalia walked into The Mustard Seed feeling sad and defeated. However, after receiving clothing assistance, she left smiling with her spirits lifted, thanks to YOUR kind support.
A storm destroyed a large portion of Natalia’s Sanford home after a tree crashed through the roof. She shares the home with her mother, two brothers and 23-year-old daughter who has autism. The family lost heirlooms, clothing, furniture, appliances and more. It’s the home Natalia’s mother grew up in.
“We’re in a dilemma. That’s where we have to live until we have somewhere to go,” Natalia said. “This is a lot to repair for people who don’t have anything. We need financial help. We need food. We need clothes.”
Natalia said she’s contacted various agencies for help and an organization providing services for the homeless put her on a waiting list and told her it could take up to three months before a social worker is assigned to her case.
“It’s been very hard and draining for me,” Natalia said.
The Center for Independent Living, a nonprofit organization in Winter Park dedicated to helping people with any form of disability live independently, referred Natalia to The Mustard Seed for furniture and clothing.
Natalia received a full week’s worth of clothing, including several pieces of new designer clothes donated by Mustard Seed partner Delivering Good, a New York-based nonprofit organization that unites retailers, manufacturers, foundations and individuals to support people affected by poverty and tragedy.
Natalia will be returning to The Mustard Seed soon to pick out home furnishings.
“I feel so much better after receiving all of these wonderful clothes for my family,” Natalia said. “This really puts a smile on my face. It gives me hope.”
